◆ What do you do at Radio Hillingdon? I started out with request collecting & general fundraising events. I spent a few years on the Committee as a committee member and have also recently held the position of Secretary. I also help Steve Hickman with fundraising when I’m told! I would never say no to Steve or I get the raised eyebrow!! (More than my life’s worth to turn him down)
◆ What do you do for a living? Administrator for London Borough of Hillingdon. I’ve always wanted to work for the local authority. My job is extremely rewarding and I really enjoy going to work.
◆ What do you like to do in your spare time? I love going out & about with friends & traveling, especially as I’ve now discovered the USA. I visited a friend in Chicago last October, and am really looking forward to going back again. I am also partial to the odd Jack Daniels!. I enjoy reading, especially history and I have a great passion for visiting historic places the length and breadth of England.
◆ What do you get from being a member of Radio Hillingdon? Satisfaction that by simply playing a record for someone you’ve only just met, that it can make their day. Many people you meet when visiting the wards in the hospital can be on their own & in hospital for many weeks with no one visiting them. Every time you visit they get to know you and you get to understand what type of music makes their day. It’s fun to chat people.
◆ What sort of music do you like listening to? I love all sorts of music including classical, Vivaldi – Four Seaons has to be one of my favorites. Friends say that I’m stuck in an 80’s time warp as I also enjoy groups like Breathe & The Pet Shop Boys, along with classic hits from Rick Astley & Paul Young – cheesy pop! I’m not a big fan of “mice dancing on sheet metal” music (Great Quote from John Candy in Uncle Buck).
◆ What is your ideal holiday destination? Now that I’ve been there I’d have to say the USA, but only as my friend is there, it was great to visit the Mid West and be shown America from someone who lives in a small town, the America that not many people get to see. I also love the Lake District and visit there at least once a year.
◆ What’s your favorite food? Ooooo difficult one. Any one who knows me, knows I love my food but if I had to pick one it would have to be Chinese, but my Mums home made Yorkshire pud’ and roast beef Sunday lunches come a joint 1st!! She also join Radio Hillingdon last year and helps out with fundraising.
